David Sherlock is a voracious problem solver. He excels at interpreting market data and has used that data to build a successful strategy to provide SAGE clients with lower risk and higher returns. David specializes in developing quantitative North American and European equity models. His important role within the team is that of Chief Investment Officer.

His History

David is a graduate of the University of Calgary and holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science. He also holds the following designations: Canadian Investment Manager, Personal Financial Planner, Financial Management Advisor, Associate Institute of Canadian Bankers, and Fellow of Canadian Securities Institute. David has worked as a Portfolio Manager serving high net worth families for over 14 years. He has had successful careers in investment research and investment wholesaling.

In the News

David won the Globe & Mail 2012 Stock Picking Contest for professionals. He posted triple-digit returns with his stock selection, beating the combined returns of the 2 runners-up.

Involved in Education

David is excited about educating both clients and the next generation of investment professionals. For a decade, he has enjoyed teaching the Canadian Securities Course and other investment management courses at Mount Royal University. He also teaches a beginner & advanced portfolio management course at the University of Calgary, where his reviews continually show him as a top rated instructor.

In the Community

David is the happy father of five children. He and his wife actively volunteer in a number of community programs. He has lived abroad and speaks fluent Cantonese.

The Chartered Investment Manager (CIM^®) Designation builds the skills and experience we need to serve a more sophisticated financial client or institution. Financial professionals who hold the CIM designation are eligible for registration as a Portfolio Manager in Canada. They have expertise in providing money management services to high-net-worth and institutional clients, and they understand the application of portfolio management in the context of Canadian markets and regulatory requirements. A CIM identifies clients' objectives and constraints; develops appropriate investment policies and strategies, taking into consideration market and economic conditions; and evaluates investment products that represent both traditional and alternative asset classes; and implements policies and strategies through portfolio construction.
